Woman from Greek embassy dies in train mishap in Thailand

An assistant secretary at the Greek Embassy in Thailand died yesterday after falling under a moving train in Kanchanaburi's Sai Yok district, police said.

The accident, which killed Aristea Liapi, took place at 12.55pm at Sai Yok Park, Pol Lieutenant Kasan Thara of Sai Yok police station said.

A police investigation found that the victim had travelled from Thon Buri Station with her husband, daughter and the daughter's boyfriend to visit Krasae Cave.

While the train was slowing down to reach Sai Yok Park Station, the victim stepped out of the train but her shoulder bag may have caught on a part of the bogey, causing her to fall under the train.
