Zero tolerance for burning forests: Indonesian police

National Police chief Gen. Sutarman said that his force would not tolerate anyone who burned forests and caused huge losses.

Thick haze is currently shrouding parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan due to a growing number of hot spots on both islands.

Sutarman said that anyone who carried out slash-and-burn to clear areas would be considered as having violated the law.

"People should stop such practices because it causes air pollution that harm people's health and disrupts air travel as well as other business activities," he said Wednesday as quoted by okezone.com.
