95% of BTO defects reported are rectified within 14 days: MND

SINGAPORE - 95 per cent of BTO defects are rectified within 14 days, said Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Lee earlier today (Jan 29) in Parliament.

Mr Lee said that there is a one-year Defects Liability Period after the handover of a BTO unit where the contractor is obliged to fix any defects, which are reported to Housing and Development Board's (HDB) Building Service Centres.

In instances where defects have not been corrected to homeowners' satisfaction, Mr Lee said HDB will "look into every case and take all reasonable efforts to address the owner's concerns".

His comments follow recent complaints by BTO homeowners, which was brought up by MP Joan Pereira who asked how HDB ensures the quality of these units.

Mr Lee added that there is a comprehensive management system to track the construction process, including functional tests "on the mechanical and electrical services installed as well as the water-tightness of bathrooms, windows, and external walls".
