Confessions of a model booker

Confessions of a model booker
Ms Vivian Lim poses in front of a wall displaying her models' composite cards.

"Find me an Asian Johnny Depp."

This was one of the most befuddling requests model booker Vivian Lim has received.

The 45-year-old owns modelling company One Model Management, which finds beautiful people for her clients' events, advertisements and catwalk shows.

She confesses to almost snorting out loud at the request - especially with the miniscule budget given.

"Fly me to Japan, and maybe it's possible to find someone like that, but you can't expect to pay peanuts and get the world."

People think the job is glamorous, but playing the middleman is fraught with challenges, she says.

Not only do clients expect a match for their brief immediately, but sometimes, it's a no-win situation.

Not good-looking, the client complains. Or some complain the models are too good-looking, saying consumers won't be able to relate to them.
