DPM Zahid to explain truth about 1MDB to UMNO members

TANAH MERAH - Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will give a detailed explanation to Umno members on the issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Bhd and the RM2.6bil (S$916 mil) political fund soon.

The Deputy Prime Minister wants to ensure that each party member will not fall for the lies and incorrect information being circulated on social media.

"Without the explanation, Umno members at the grassroots will eventually fall for the waves of information on social media," he said after opening the Tanah Merah Umno delegates meeting here yesterday.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said there was much confusion over the 1MDB issue.

"My associates and I will give the public a full explanation as I have seen the documents myself," he added.

Earlier in his speech, Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is an Umno vice-president, urged all party leaders and members to close ranks and ensure that Umno remained relevant at the next general election.

He said it was an uphill task to fight back or answer accusations against the party that were uploaded on social media.

"In this matter, Umno leaders from the top to the division heads should go to the ground to give the right information to the voters," he added.

During a separate function in Kuching, Dr Ahmad Zahid paid a courtesy call to Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He thanked the former chief minister for his advice and views on all aspects during the visit.

"Tun is more knowledgeable in analysing all situations and I hope my personal ties with him will strengthen links, official relationship between Kuala Lumpur and Kuching or the federal and state government," he said.
