UNITED KINGDOM - If you think footballers who earn thousands of dollars a week are quintessential babe magnets, you are way off the mark.

A survey by UK's largest dating website IllicitEncounters.com has "shattered the myth" about professional footballers and women.

The survey asked over 1,500 female members of the website what they thought the sexiest profession was for a partner and why, the Daily Mail reported.

Musicians or artistes, a profession that embodies passion and creativity, was tops with 32 per cent of the votes.

The second sexiest were men who work in the financial sector (24 per cent). The women described them as ambitious, confident and intelligent.

The least sexy were footballers, with just 1 per cent of those surveyed giving the sportsman the nod.

According to the survey, the women found professional footballers "over-confident, vain, self-absorbed and as having a bad reputation".

Teachers (13 per cent), doctors (9 per cent) and writers/journalists (7 per cent) made up the top five sexiest professions, according to the women. They described writers and journalists as creative, artistic and informed.

The website's spokesman Rosie Freeman-Jones, who carried out the survey, said: "Men think confidence is sexy. What they don't realise is over-confidence can be incredibly off-putting.

"It appears that while footballers may be attractive on the pitch, off the pitch most women feel they would have little or nothing in common with them.

"So despite their fame and fortune, most women find their arrogance, and reputation a real turn-off," she said.

Meanwhile, a study by the American Sociological Review released on Wednesday has found that the more housework married men do, the less sex they have.

Husbands who spend more time doing traditionally female chores - such as cooking, cleaning and shopping - reported having less sex than those who do more "masculine" tasks.
