Job portal for those looking to work in community care

In search of passionate people to meet the fast-growing needs of the community-care sector, such as caring for seniors and the sick, the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) launched a dedicated job website - the ILTCareers portal - yesterday.

Mr Chern Siang Jye, AIC's chief corporate officer, shares how one can get started on building an Intermediate and Long Term Care (ILTC) career.

There is an impression that jobs in the community-care sector are not attractive, with long working hours and low pay. Why should young adults join?

The community-care sector is a sunrise industry and (we are) actively looking for deeply passionate people to join it.

Employers are investing more in training, skills upgrading and job advancement. The Ministry of Health provides funding support to improve the salary positioning for employees in the sector.

Most importantly, it can offer great job fulfilment. Those working in the sector find the greatest joy in being a partner to their clients and families during their journey of care.

What are the qualities that employees should possess?

Having a passion to serve and help others who are less fortunate, a great sense of empathy and a continuing desire to learn and grow. The community-care sector is, after all, about helping to improve lives, so putting the client at the centre is key.

What are some ILTC careers available?

The careers available in this sector are diverse. There are health-care-related jobs such as nurses, physiotherapists and medical social workers. Also, there are administrative positions ranging from human resource to finance.

What's available on the ILTCareers portal?

Bringing together prospective employers and jobseekers, the portal has links to 49 ILTC organisations, with many already posting vacancies online.

Jobseekers can browse through various job postings, and connect with an ILTC employer by applying for a job through the site. The portal also provides comprehensive information on careers and training scholarships in the community-care sector.
