More than 1,000 people have signed up for skills-building career seminars at the 2012 JobsCentral Career and Learning Fair to be held over the weekend of August 25, its organisers said.

The high level of interest in skills-upgrading is despite Singapore's low unemployment rate of two per cent.

23 seminars will be held at the career fair, covering topics such as career growth, entrepreneurship, business skills and leadership.

Lim Der Shing, CEO of the JobsCentral Group said, "Our tight employment market and rising wage costs have incentivised many employers to focus on improving productivity.

"Employees who continuously upgrade (their skills) will be increasingly valued."

Over 55,000 visitors are expected at the career event held at Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Employer exhibitors and education providers will be present to offer advice and opportunities to participants.
