Less glamorous jobs such as computer systems analyst, civil engineer, veterinarian, biologist and market research analyst are often underrated as they offer high growth, low stress and rewarding work.

For example, computer systems analysts often have lucrative possibilities and a positive job growth while civil engineers have bright prospects due to projected increases in infrastructure-related construction.

Veterinarians also have rewarding and low-stress work for a reasonable median pay range.

On the other hand, some jobs may sound exciting and appealing, but they could actually be overrated due to hidden downsides which outsiders are not aware of.

According to career website CareerCast.com, limited career advancement, long hours, stress and increasing competiton have made some of these careers some of the most overrated jobs in today's workplace.

Jobs such as advertising agency executive, photojournalist and public relations executive do sound cool, but reality begs to differ as some of these jobs have high turnovers from high pressure and competition.

Other overrated jobs include senior corporate executives, commercial airline pilots, stockbrokers, surgeons and attorneys also have overrated jobs.

For example, while senior corporate executives receive high median salaries, they shoulder heavy responsibilities in managing every facets of an organisations and hundreds of employees.

Commercial airline pilots face lesser demand for flights and increased expenses of fuel. Hiring of airline pilots have slowed to almost a grinding halt.
