Progressive wage model for contracts: Tripartite body replies

Progressive wage model for contracts: Tripartite body replies

SINGAPORE - THE Tripartite Cluster for Cleaners recommended that the progressive wage model be incorporated into new contracts once licensing requirements are adjusted to mandate that ("Basic pay: Give time for businesses to adjust" by Mr Francis Cheng; Thursday).

As for existing contracts, they run for different durations. The pace of incorporating the progressive wage model into them depends on both the buyers and service providers.

That said, we urge as many buyers as possible to consider early incorporation of the model into their contracts, so that they are more able to retain staff, upgrade skills and improve productivity in a tight labour market.

In this regard, we commend the schools under the Ministry of Education as well as the People's Action Party town councils for taking the lead to incorporate the progressive wage model into existing contracts ahead of legislation.
