SINGAPORE - The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) has launched a mobile version of its online Public Register of Estate Agents and Salespersons.

CEA@SG is CEA's first app for iOS and Android devices and is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CEA says that the launch is aimed at making resources for consumers easily accessible so that the public can make more informed decisions when engaging the services of estate agents and salespersons.

With the app, members of the public can search the particulars of a salesperson or estate agent, using the salesperson's name, registration number or mobile number.

The app also allows the public to access any disciplinary records a salesperson or estate agent has.

Awards given to estate agents or salespersons by CEA will also be reflected in future.

In a recent case, an unregistered salesperson was caught trying to impersonate a registered agent after his clients checked the Public Register and noticed that he did not look like the person in the Public Register record.

Under the Estate Agents Act, it is an offence for estate agents and salespersons to conduct estate agency work without being licensed or registered with CEA.

Consumers should only engage the services of licensed estate agents and registered salespersons. The public is encouraged to use the Public Register when engaging the services of estate agents and salespersons.

Consumers should report unregistered salespersons to the CEA at 1800-6432555 or feedback@cea,gov.sg. More consumer resources such as a consumer guide will be added to the app in the next few months.
