Sprawling $201 million estate is "China's most expensive home"

What can you buy with 1 billion yuan (S$201 million)? How about a luxury garden mansion marketed as "China's most expensive home"?

The lavish mansion in Suzhou, China was recently listed on real estate website Mansion Global. According to reports online, Mr Jim Hao, vice chairman of Beijing Sotheby's International Realty, which handles marketing of the property, said that it is the highest luxury listing the firm had in China.

The garden home sits on a sprawling 72,414 sq ft estate, and has a jaw-dropping 32 bedrooms and 32 bathrooms.

Photos of the property posted online also show that the estate comes with multiple ponds, well-manicured Chinese gardens with pagodas, a network of courtyards, luxurious interiors, a swimming pool and a large private wine cellar.

It is situated on a private island on the Dushu Lake, China's biggest lake, giving the home picturesque views of the mist-covered lake.

According to Mansion Global, the house is named "Taohuayuan", which literally means "Peace Blossom Land" but translates into "Utopia".

While the exclusive mansion may be the most expensive property in mainland China, online news tabloid Shanghaiist pointed out that Alibaba founder Jack Ma recently purchased a unit at Hong Kong's The Peak for a reported 1.29 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, it was recently also reported that Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing and her beau Li Chen also invested in a luxury home in the actress' hometown of Qingdao. That, however, is like small change compared to the Suzhou estate, as the couple's home cost just 10 million yuan.
