SINGAPORE - One of Singapore's most reputable car workshop operators, STAR Automotive Centre, will be closing its doors for good at the end of this year.
Parent company ST Kinetics said that the closure was due to an ongoing review of its business direction to optimise resources for future growth.
Set to cease operations on December 31, the workshop operator has been in operation for more than 30 years.
ST Kinetics says that all STAR staff will be re-deployed within ST Kinetics. It added that the existing facility at Jalan Boon Lay will be used for the company's core business, which involves designing and developing integrated systems, specialty vehicles and their related services for defence, government and commercial clients.
The company's fleet management services for taxi operators, large fleet owners and heavy vehicles will not be disrupted by the closure.
In a statement today, the company also said that all obligations to STAR customers engaged in servicing, grooming and warranty packages will continue through several arrangements.
For example, customers with servicing or warranty packages will be able to have their service packages fulfilled via Mega Auto in East Coast from January 1, 2013.
STAR's current grooming services partner, Acellent Services, will also take over the accounts of grooming package clients from next year.
Despite these arrangements, all servicing, warranty and grooming packages will remain under ST Kinetic's care, the company said.
Existing customers may also opt for a refund on the remaining services not utilised in their servicing, grooming and warranty packages which expire beyond December 31.
A Customer Appreciation Reward of $300 will also be given out to servicing and grooming package customers on top of the full refund.
