HANOI, Vietnam, Feb. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The leading mobile payment platform in Vietnam VIMO has signed partnership with Lotte Duty Free to deploy a mobile payment platform to accept WeChat Pay from Chinese tourists at duty free stores of Da Nang international airport.

From January 19, 2018, Chinese tourists flying to and from Da Nang International Airport in Vietnam can use WeChat to scan a QR code generated by cashiers upon checkout at Lotte's duty free shops to make payments quick and easy without needing to bring cash or credit cards.

VIMO has partnered with Lotte Duty Free to deploy the mobile payment platform through QR codes at 41 checkouts in 5 chain stores at Da Nang International Airport. Lotte's Duty Free shops have many high quality products such as cosmetics, watches, wines, medicine, clothes and jewelry from more than 100 famous brand.

From February 2, 2018 to February 28, 2018, VIMO and WeChat collaborated to launch New Year Lucky Money for Chinese users who use their WeChat account when making purchases (requires a Mainland WeChat ID). Consequently, after a payment at Lotte Duty Free, customers will be randomly refunded up to 888 CNY. Celebrating the Lunar New Year, Lotte Duty Free will have many promotional programs from many brands, and valuable gifts from Lotte Duty Free.

VIMO is the largest mobile wallet and the first and only mobile payment platform in Vietnam to allow Chinese customers to pay with WeChat while traveling to Vietnam. Currently VIMO has nearly 500 higher end stores accepting WeChat payment at popular tourist destinations in Vietnam, including more than 50 stores at five international airports with direct flights to and from China.

General Director of VIMO, Mr. Do Cong Dien, stated that in 2018 VIMO will expand its acceptance network to 2,000 more shops to provide convenient payment method for Chinese tourists, as well as boosting revenue for local merchants.

Vietnam is one of the most attractive destinations in the region for Chinese tourists, with an estimated 3.5 million arrivals and turnover of nearly 3 billion USD in 2017. By enabling WeChat payment to thousands of stores locally, VIMO targets to boost spending by Chinese tourists to while travelling to Vietnam by 10% in 2018, from an average of 638 USD per capita in 2017.
