Yangon infrastructure lacking

Yangon is undergoing rapid democratization and economic reform.

Rundown taxis in which passengers could see the street through holes in the floorboards were not all that rare, even two years ago. They have now been replaced with used Toyota compact vans. Economic progress in Yangon means one notices changes on an almost daily basis. But infrastructure for daily life is still, in many respects, lacking.

The state of the Internet makes the situation all the more dire.

However, dramatic improvements are being made in the online environment through connections via cellphone as those devices spread.

Myanmar businesses are now returning to a state of calm. It is too late to ride the wave of Yangon's boom. But improvements in the living environment for Yangon residents have only just begun.
