A man in China miraculously survived, after a metal pole which fell from a building impaled his head and appeared lodged in his skull.

The incident on the evening of Nov 25 occurred near a worksite at Sichuan province, Mianyang city.

The more than 1m-long pole had fallen from a height of about 4m, hitting the pedestrian, who was walking by the site with a friend.

In video footage captured at the scene, the man, who is said to be in his 30s, is seen conscious and sitting up, with a metal bar sticking out from his head. Incredibly, he appeared to be able to move his hands as rescuers worked to free him.

Paramedics and firefighters worked together as rescuers gingerly cut through the metal bar, making sure not to hurt him. Within five minutes, the man was freed and taken to hospital.

Setn.com reported that the bar had penetrated only 1cm of the man's head, leaving no other permanent damage. Doctors removed the metal bar on the same day and the man has since been discharged.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
