Online outrage over video of Chinese male trainees doing push-ups over female comrades

A circulating video of Chinese male trainees in military uniform doing push-ups over their female counterparts has netizens up in arms.

In the video a group of teenagers in military uniform could be seen in push-up positions, while their female comrades lay on the ground beneath, attempting to cover their face from the shame.

Many netizens question just what sort of 'training' this was and what it sought to achieve.

According to Shanghaiist, the video could be from a 'training exercise' which university freshmen have to undergo as part of their mandatory military training at the start of each school year.

Many netizens also criticised such past activities for being 'useless' and even 'cruel'.
