When a secondary school student was denied access to the Internet by his mother, he attacked her with a chopper in anger.

She was sleeping when the attack took place in their home garage in Jiangsu, China this week, Chinese media reported.

The woman suffered seven to eight slashes in total on her body, a doctor told reporters who visited her at Nanjing No. 1 hospital.

Her wounds include a 20cm-long slash on her neck and several others on her arm.

She will require surgery to treat her injuries but her life is not in danger, the doctor said.

The woman had bandages on her neck and left hand but declined to speak to reporters about the incident.

Local police have since detained the teen.

After a video report was shared on Weibo on Wednesday (Sept 13), it has been viewed over 2 million times.

"If I were his father, I would not let him off with this! I'd rather not have a child who would do something so brutal."Photo: Weibo

Chinese netizens were enraged by the report, with one commenting: "If I were his father, I would not let him off with this! I'd rather not have a child who would do something so brutal."

Another said: "To attack one's mother... this has to be related to a child's upbringing."
