A barber in Chengdu used a razor to clean his customers' eyes in an ancient tradition which is not practiced in modern times due to risk of infection and danger, in footage captured Thursday.
62-year-old Xiong Gaowu runs an outdoor barber shop where the eye-watering cleaning practice is offered. First, Gaowu gives his customers an eyeball cleanse, which involves scraping the eyes with his knife.
The shavings are collected by using an iron rod which is run beneath the eyelid.
The brave customer did not seem phased by the ancient tradition.
"In the beginning my eye was uncomfortable. And now it has been washed it will be calmer," he said.
