Two parang-wielding men rob Sin Chew office

IPOH, Malaysia - Two men armed with parang robbed the bureau office of Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad here.

A staff member from its circulation department was behind a counter at the office located on the ground floor when two men wearing full-face helmets barged in at 7.18am yesterday.

The worker, who declined to be named, said one of the robbers pointed a parang at him.

Fearing for his safety, he ran towards a room located behind the counter but fell.

"Luckily, my other colleagues quickly pulled me into the office and locked the door from inside.

"We could see from there that one of the men was flashing the parang at our direction as a warning sign," he said.

Then the other man jumped over the counter, opened a drawer and took some cash, he added.

Both robbers then fled on a motorcycle.

"Once it was safe for us to come out, I checked the drawer and found about RM8,400 (S$3,250) was missing," he said.

He said the money was from the sales of newspapers.
