KUALA LUMPUR - The taxi driver who was detained on Wednesday to assist investigations into the death of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, is the boyfriend of the second woman detained early this morning.
"He is not one of the prime suspects but he is assisting us with the investigation," said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat.
"Information that he gave led us to the arrest of the second woman," he said when contacted on Thursday.
The woman, who was arrested in the city at 2am, was using an Indonesian passport bearing the name Siti Aishah from Serang, Indonesia. .
Police said she was identified based on CCTV footage at the airport and was alone at the time of arrest.
Her date of birth as listed in the passport, is Feb 11, 1992.
The first suspect with the Vietnamese passport bearing the name Doan Thi Huong was arrested at KLIA2 on Wednesday as she was preparing to board a flight to Vietnam.
Kim Jong-nam, 45, was killed by two women who splashed his face with a chemical at the KL International Airport 2 departure hall at about 9am on Monday. He was about to leave for Macau.
Comm Abdul Samah also confirmed that Siti Aishah and the first suspect have been remanded for seven days.
On Wednesday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim confirmed the arrest of the taxi driver.
