2020 iPhone lineup expected to be all OLED and support 5G connectivity

While we are still waiting for this year's iPhone lineup to be released, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is already looking ahead and sharing his predictions for the 2020 iPhone models.

Kuo claimed that Apple will be launching the first 5G iPhones in 2020 and all three models will come with OLED displays. The screen sizes will be different from the current lineup: 6.7-inch, 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch.

The 6.1-inch OLED is expected to support LTE while the other models will come with 5G connectivity. Apple will rely on Qualcomm's baseband chips for the 5G models. For the 2019 iPhone lineup, Apple will continue to use Intel modems even though Intel has exited from the 5G smartphone modem market. Kuo also expects Apple's own 5G modems to be ready in 2022.

The switch to an all-OLED iPhone lineup is in line with a report by the Wall Street Journal earlier this year; Apple is believed to be dropping LCD in favour of OLED as the latter offers "more flexible handset design". The new screen sizes have been previously reported by DigiTimes' sources in the supply chain.
