Alleged leak shows thinner iPad with iPhone 6-style buttons

Vietnamese blog Tinhte.vn has published pictures of what it says is the new iPad Air.

According to 9to5Mac.com, the pictures are likely of a dummy unit.

The unit is reportedly just 7mm thin, almost the same as Apple's latest iPhones (6 and 6 Plus), which measures 6.9mm and 7.1mm, said 9to5Mac.com.

The website also pointed out that the device features the same recessed volme button style as the iPhone 6.

The pictures also show the new iPad having a glass Touch ID home button, and, more curiously, the absence of the mute or rotation-lock switch.

9to5Mac.com said that the blog speculated that the mute switch was "sacrificed in order for Apple to attain the desired thinness".

9to5Mac.com's report does point out that it isn't clear what stage of development this iPad dummy is from, and the final device, which many speculate that Apple will announce on Oct 16, may not look like the dummy shown.

There was apparently a video showing the dummy unit, according to the report, but it has since been removed.
