Apple's rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could get a more powerful processor

With Apple reported to be unveiling its new iPhone later next month, excitement is on a high. The latest rumours and predictions now suggest that the rumored larger 5.5-inch model would be given a faster variant of the upcoming A8 processor than the smaller 4.7-inch model.

This prediction was made by Timothy Arcuri, an analyst at Cowen & Co., who cited Asian supply chain checks when making the prediction in a Monday morning note to investors.

No further details were given, but Arcuri also said that the processor in the larger 5.5-inch model could also have a larger die, which could mean than the differences between the two would not be limited to just clock speeds. Currently, the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display have the same A7 processor but with different clock speeds. It is now believed that if this is true, the larger 5.5-inch model could have more graphics processing cores.

This plays in with the other rumours that Apple is currently splitting production of its new A8 processor between Taiwanese-based TSMC and Samsung.
