SINGAPORE - 150 parents and children celebrated the start of the June holidays by crafting beautiful art pieces and enjoying quality family time at the free "We Are Family!" crafts workshop jointly organised by Canon Singapore and omy.sg.

Held at InterContinental Singapore on May 31, 2014, the crafts workshop, aimed at families with children aged five to twelve years old, is part of Canon PIXMA's on-going efforts to strengthen family ties through meaningful activities since 2012.

"This year, we celebrate the International Year of the Family. The objective of this event is to encourage families, particularly parents, to get involved in their children's creative development, by coming together to create fine crafts using Canon Creative Park and print their family photos using Canon PIXMA printers," said Mr Ong Khiaw Seng, Assistant Director for Consumer System Products, Canon Singapore.

The enthusiastic parents and children worked together on their door greeters with the art supplies from their goodie bags. They also personalised their artworks by adding family photos printed wirelessly from their mobile devices and the PIXMA printers.

"Family crafting times help to build relationships with your children through communicating during the hands-on activity. At our family craft workshop, the kids were able to print out their families photos to decorate their photo frame and take home the souvenir to share with their friends and family. This personalized physical print-out can last many generations and captures the special moments in their lives that can be shared with their extended families and friends," added Mr Ong.

While parents put the finishing touches on the craft projects, the children had fun playing games with bubbly hosts Ms Joanne Marie Sim and Mr Jeremy Yeo where they won prizes for completing a crossword puzzle after gleefully searching for clues scattered around the venue.

A jigsaw puzzle in the shape of the Singapore map was also filled with family photographs and heartwarming messages that the children wrote to their parents. This allowed the participants an opportunity to share their treasured moments with the others.

Throughout the workshop, the participants were spotted happily taking selfies with each other and their completed artworks. The children also demonstrated their tech-savvy side when a six-year-old girl snapped a photograph of the hosts at the photo booth with an iPad.

Grace, who brought her daughter along for the workshop, said she often used her PIXMA printer to print photos for her family scrapbooking projects. She also shared her enjoyment of printing wirelessly through the PIXMA Printing Solutions App and that she was satisfied with the quality of the prints.

Mr Ong also pointed out that: "You are able to print on the go and even when you are travelling, you are able to send your prints and important documents back home. Canon PIXMA Printing Solutions App (PPS) enable you to wirelessly print from a mobile device or tablet with wireless capability from almost anywhere. After registering with PIXMA Cloud Link, users can log into the cloud function of the app and access their images and documents on the online services to print. With PPS, you can also print your images and documents from social media storage sites such as Facebook, Flickr and document storage sites like Dropbox and Evernote."

He also shared that physical prints of life's special moments can last many generations since they survive computer breakdowns and memory card failures, and hoped the participants would share their art pieces with families and friends after bringing them as souvenirs home.

On Canon PIXMA's blog, ten PIXMA bloggers posted tutorials of their family craft projects such as photo scrapbooks and photo fridge magnets that they completed using their PIXMA printers and the new PIXMA Printing Solutions App.
