SINGAPORE - Good news for those who don't need a new phone, M1 today launched its mySIM postpaid plans, which are probably the cheapest plans in terms of data and talk time in Singapore.
For $30 a month, users get 5GB of data, 300 minutes of calls, and 1,000 SMS/MMS. The numbers go up with the $45, $75 plans. For $125 a month, users get 20GB of data and unlimited calls and SMS/MMS. Users will need to sign a one-year contract.
For those who'd prefer not to bind themselves to M1 for a year, the $30 one-month "contract" plan gives users 3GB of data instead of 5GB, with call time and SMS/MMS number staying at 300 minutes and 1,000 respectiively. At the upper end, $125 will net users 13GB of data for a month, and unlimited calls and SMS/MMS.
Users also get free incoming calls, unlimited free calls to three M1 numbers and voicemail. Caller ID is free for the first month if it's a new line.
M1 said that it is able to offer these plans as it is not subsidising the costs of customers' smartphones.
"Customers who prefer to buy their own smartphones have told us they would like to see better value in their postpaid plans, and we created the M1 mySIM plans to meet the needs of these customers. As we do not subsidise these customers' smartphones, we pass these savings back to them through larger data, call and message bundles," said Mr P. Subramaniam, M1's chief marketing officer.
This is probably great news for users who buy low-cost smartphones from makers like Xiaomi.
