Doraemon to pull Chinese smartphone game from pocket

TOKYO - A Doraemon smartphone game is in the works for fans of the animated robotic cat in China.

Fujiko Pro, a Japanese anime production company set up by the character's creators, will join forces with major Chinese game provider Forgame Holdings to launch the software by year-end.

"The environment is ready for expanding business with confidence," Fujiko Pro President Zensho Ito said, referring to the Chinese government's stepped-up actions against copyright infringement.

Details have yet to emerge, but the Guangzhou-based company will develop and distribute the game, while a subsidiary of major production company Imagica Robot Holdings will oversee illustrations. Consulting company Clara Online will assist in customer development and marketing.

Fujiko Pro will join the growing ranks of Japanese companies working with local partners on Chinese distribution of games inspired by well-established Japanese content.
