Get first-aid tips in a jiffy with new app

What do you do when you see someone choking or suffering from a heart attack?

The answers can be easily found in a new mobile app that offers handy advice for medical emergencies in four languages: English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil.

Called First Aid By Singapore Red Cross, the app for iOS and Android mobile gadgets was launched yesterday by the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) at the World First Aid Day Celebrations at Tampines West Community Club.

The event was attended by Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs.

The app offers advice on 20 first-aid situations, such as when someone has an asthma attack, an allergic reaction or suffers head injuries. The causes of the medical emergencies are listed, as well as what signs and symptoms to look out for. Step-by-step guides are provided to help users.

Users can also test what they have learnt by taking quizzes on the app.

Tee Tua Ba, SRC's chairman, said that with the app, "people can now easily access critical advice when faced with a medical emergency".
