Gujarat lifts Internet ban

FEARING that anti-social elements were spreading provocative messages on social media that could create fear and insecurity in the community, officials in Gujarat banned mobile Internet services last week. This came after a two-day unrest triggered by the rally held by the Patidar community on Aug 25.

The ban was lifted in Rajkot, Vadodara and other smaller towns on Aug 31, and on Sept 1 in Ahmedabad.
