MIRRORLESS CAMERA

Sony Alpha A7S Full-frame Camera

Sony's latest camera is a full-frame mirrorless which can also shoot 4K video. Its 12.2-megapixel full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor with a sensitivity range of ISO 50-409,600 allows you to shoot even in near-total darkness.

A powerful BIONZ X image processor lets the camera output in HD and 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) video. There is support to shoot at a high frame rate, allowing for 120fps shooting at HD resolution (1,280 x 720 pixels).

Sony says the camera's gamma function, S-Log2 gamma, expands the dynamic range by up to 1,300 per cent to retain detail in shadows. In bright daylight, it reduces clipped highlights, which are the areas of an image where no data exists, causing the information to render as pure white.

The camera can save videos in the XAVC S-format, which allows for full-HD recording at 50Mbps with lower compression for better video quality.

TrakDot Luggage Tracker

If you do not trust airlines and airports to mind your luggage, this tracker may help. The TrakDot has its own SIM card and can send an SMS to your phone to let you know its location and, therefore, if your luggage has arrived.

It works at most airports other than those in Japan and South Korea, which do not have GSM networks. The TrakDot has an annual subscription fee of US$20 (S$25), but it is free for the first year.

A free companion app for iOS and Android lets you know when you are within 9m of your luggage, to help you find it on the baggage carousel.

The TrakDot uses two AA batteries and is supposed to last up to 48 hours.

The tracker will be launched at the Natas Fair from Aug 29 to 31, at Booth 6H10 in Singapore Expo Hall 6.
