Portable bluetooth speakers review: Supertooth disco 2

Portable bluetooth speakers review: Supertooth disco 2
While it is the cheapest speaker in our round up, but Creative has spoilt it for everyone as far as getting bang for buck.

Where the original Supertooth Disco looked more like your regular speaker (albeit one angled up slightly), the Disco 2 adopts a vastly different profile, standing vertical with all the controls placed right on the top of the speaker.

It also comes in a choice of six colors, and at just 7.17 x 4.25 x 2.76 inches and 0.55kg, it's the second smallest speaker in our shootout second to the Beats Pill 2.0.

The Disco 2 makes use of Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX codec support for better compression quality.

However, we must admit it's a bit surprising that there aren't more features on this speaker. No microphone built-in or NFC support which are almost a given on most speakers.

While it is the cheapest speaker in our round up, but Creative has spoilt it for everyone as far as getting bang for buck.

Thankfully, pairing via Bluetooth was fast and easy so you'll probably not miss NFC functionality at all.

For its size, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the Disco 2 handled Adele's Melt My Heart to Stone with surprising clarity. In terms of numbers.

We did detect a bit of sibilance through the track, but overall we found it to place emphasis on the vocals and the high notes. However, like the Pill 2.0, bass will be problematic with mid to lower registers sounding weak and maybe a little too mellow.

Ultimately, it's an adequate portable speaker. Its vertical shape makes it easier to stuff into a backpack and it's clearly designed as a lifestyle item, available in bright coloured designs.

Though it streams audio in stereo, it also features the ability to pair with a second Disco 2 like the Pill 2.0 for proper stereo separation.
