Strange babies, Norman Reedus and a post apocalyptic world — that's right folks, Death Stranding is back with a sequel.

At The Game Awards today (Dec 9), a trailer for the sequel to Hideo Kojima's post-apocalyptic sci-fi world of Death Stranding was aired.

Tentatively titled Death Stranding 2, this sequel promises more uncanny-valley babies and the return of Norman as Sam Porter Bridges (the iconic delivery man of the first game), Lea Seydoux and Troy Baker.

But the story itself has been changed by the pandemic, as Kojima, 59, revealed.

"I had the story written before the pandemic, but after experiencing the pandemic I just re-wrote the whole thing from scratch," he said at The Game Awards.

Kojima also cheekily added: "I also didn't want to predict any more futures, so I re-wrote it."

This was a tongue-in-cheek reference to how many fans have speculated that Kojima predicted Covid-19 as the world of Death Stranding and pandemic restrictions had eerily similar characteristics.

In the game, due to the deadly effects of close contact with antimatter, people have decided to live in isolated colonies — not dissimilar to how people have isolated themselves due to the pandemic, which began soon after the game's release in November 2019.

The trailer for Death Stranding 2 is also packed with bits of information, as hinted by Kojima.

He said of the story: "I can't really be specific right now, but you've just seen the trailer. And I've put a lot of things inside so I want you guys to talk about it and find details in it."

While his challenge will likely have fans hitting that replay button and scouring the trailer for clues, Kojima also said that Death Stranding 2 isn't the only thing he's working on at the moment.

According to him, there's one other title in the works that's completely new, and he's still experimenting with it.

Additionally, he added that there are some other "visual projects" that he's toiling on as well, so there's a lot to look forward to if you're a fan of Kojima's works.

Death Stranding 2 will also star Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna. No release date has been announced yet.
