Robot vacuum cleaner revew: Iclebo Arte

The iClebo Arte comes from Yujin Robot, a Korean company that has over two decades worth of experience in robotic technology. The Arte features an attractive lid design with faux carbon fiber print surrounded by a bright orange margin.

As the company's flagship robot vacuum cleaner, the Arte features an advanced navigation system that employs the use of no less than 15 sensors and a camera that records at 24 frames per second.

The sensors, which include infrared and mechanical sensors, are able to sample up to 200 times a second to look out for and respond to obstructions. Inputs are then fed to its Triple CPU system that analyzes and calculates its next course of action. 

As is the norm for robotic vacuum cleaners these days, the Arte offers a variety of cleaning modes - "Navigation", "Random', "Spot", "Max" and "Wet Mop".

In "Navigation" mode, the Arte uses its assortment of sensors and camera to map out the house and calculates the most efficient way to clean it. This is the most sensible way of using the Arte to clean the house.

"Wet Mop" mode is interesting, because users can attach a special microfiber mop (which can be made wet) to the rear of Arte to drag around for mop cleaning.

Using its many sensors, camera and Triple CPU system, the Arte employs various methods to cleaning the house and would adapt accordingly. For instance, sometimes it would go up and down the entire length of a room and then switch to cleaning along the edges of walls and any obstructions that it detects.

Unfortunately, the Arte's roller and sweeping brushes can get tangled easily, especially when it travels over light rugs. In addition, we noticed that sometimes after freeing it, it would inexplicably head back to the same area and get itself stuck again.

We can only presume that it thinks that it has not finishing cleaning the area and wants to go back to finish the job. However, if it gets stuck multiple times, it soon learns to avoid that area, which is cool.

iClebo also claims the Arte has the best climbing performance amongst other robot vacuum cleaners and can negotiate obstructions or differences in surfaces of up to 2cm. This allows it to climb onto thick rugs or even slightly stepped floor areas such as in the bathroom.

Cleaning the Arte is a fairly straightforward affair as its dustbin removed with a simple push of a button, and the filter within can be easily accessed. However, since it uses a traditional brush roller, it is necessary to clean it regularly to prevent dirt, hair and pet fur from getting tangled.
