Sharper YouTube videos, but there's a catch

ULTRA-HD 4K videos are not new to video streaming site YouTube, and neither are videos that run at a silky smooth 60 frames per second (fps). But YouTube has now combined the two and is beginning to experiment with 4K videos running at 60fps.

Such 4K videos are said to be four times sharper than current HD 1080p clips.

Now, before you get too excited, there are a couple of caveats. First of all, the selection of videos offering 4K at 60fps is currently very small.

But perhaps more important is the fact that the videos currently require a really beefy system to run smoothly, not to mention an Internet connection that is fast enough.

We tried running them on the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and although our Internet connection was up to snuff, the video was too choppy to be fully appreciated.
