SingTel partnership with Akamai to offer cyber-security solutions to businesses

SINGAPORE - SingTel and NASDAQ-listed Akamai Technologies are partnering to offer cloud-based cyber security solutions to Asia Pacific enterprises.

The partnership will help companies strengthen their ability to cope with Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks and other malicious web attacks, SingTel said in a statement on Sep 25.

DDoS attacks are committed by cyber criminals who stealthily command unrelated computers in servers, usually in different locations, to saturate and overwhelm an enterprise's bandwidth.

This can overload the enterprise's servers, networks, infocommunications platforms and applications, and severely disrupts normal operations and causes financial losses.

Mr William Woo, SingTel's managing director of Enterprise Data and Managed Services, said that while applications such as enterprise resource planning, e-commerce and cloud-based applications and Unified Communications across wide area networks helped enterprises be more productive and cost-efficient, it also exposed them to cyber attacks.

"The partnership with Akamai enhances SingTel's capabilities further to deal with DDoS, one of the most prevalent and damaging cyber threats," he added.

Using this solution, SingTel can pre-emptively scrutinise, detect and block DDoS threats, and ensure that customers' servers, connectivity, web infrastructure and apps are secured against critical downtime and theft of commercial data.

Enterprises will also be able to host their media libraries, software dwnloads or entire website in a network of servers worldwide through the Akamai Intelligent Platform, enabling faster delivery to users and providing added resilience and business continuity measures.
