Vietnam PM: Use social media
Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung speaks during the opening ceremony of the 5th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit at a hotel in Bangkok.

HA NOI - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged relevant ministries and agencies to post official information to social networks, especially Facebook, at a meeting on Thursday.

Since tens of millions of Vietnamese people got their news via social networks, it was important to use them to spread accurate information and counter false rumours, he said.

In cases where incorrect information caused public controversy, PM Dung told the Government Office to consult

Government leaders and relevant ministries and agencies about providing correct and official information for the public.

He noted that the Internet could also be used to serve management and instruction tasks. For example, in preparation for a storm, the Government and PM could convey instructions immediately to local authorities.

The Internet and social networks provided a great chance for improving communications between the people and authorities, he said.
