Brush up on your Simlish folks — The Sims 4 is available for free on PC and Mac. Until May 28th, that is.

In a surprisingly generous gesture, Electronic Arts (EA) is currently giving away the latest edition of The Sims at no cost at all via their digital distribution platform Origin.

Released way back in 2014, the game will reach its fifth birthday this September and putting it up for free could be EA’s way of celebrating. Or, EA could be drumming up a bit of buzz about everyone’s favourite life simulator ahead of the much rumoured Sims 5

Sure, you’ll only get to play the base edition of everyone’s favourite life simulator for free, but that means that you’ll just have to purchase the game’s expansion packs to get a fuller playing experience. To date, there are a total of six expansion packs available that go for a hefty $49.90 each. If not, there’s always the multitude of smaller downloadable content, including one that allows Sims to become vampires (as you do), and another that lets adult Sims shape (or ruin) their children’s life from infancy to teenhood and beyond.

Fun fact: it’ll cost you about $604 if you wanted to download every single Sims 4 expansion, game and stuff pack. Woohoo, EA, Woohoo.
