Xiaomi establishing tablet ecosystem to compete against Apple iPads

Apple, watch your back as Xiaomi is going after you in the tablet space!

Sharing his thoughts with DigiTimes, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi commented that the main issue with Android tablets is not its hardware. In fact, Lei said that "an Android tablet is not difficult to produce in terms of hardware."

He pointed out that the Android ecosystem currently lacks in the quality and quantity of apps, which is a fact that Apple has been emphasizing in the past two years. In case you don't know, Apple boasts over 500,000 tablet optimized apps for its iPads while Google declined to share specific numbers.

Since other Android vendors are not willing to grow an ecosystem for Android tablets, Lei said that Xiaomi will accelerate plans to establish one that is able to compete against the Apple iPads.

The launch of its 7.9-inch Mi Pad appears to be one of the first steps that the company is taking, and judging from the first day of sales, Xiaomi is on the right track.
