Xiaomi, one of the most popular Chinese smartphone makers, is back with its latest offering, the Mi 6.
Known for its affordable flagship models, Xiaomi's Mi 6 is one of the first phones in the world to feature Qualcomm's latest flagship-grade Snapdragon 835 processor, which is based on the new 10nm manufacturing process.
The company says the Snapdragon 835 is 35 per cent smaller in package size and consumes 25 per cent less power compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 820 processor, contributing to a longer battery life on the Mi 6.
It's powered by an octa-core 2.45GHz processor and features a whopping 6GB RAM, and an Adreno 540 graphics processing unit which it claims to offer 25 per cent performance improvement, and supports the latest Vulkan graphics API (Application Program Interface) commonly found in the latest generation flagship devices.
Conforming with the latest trend of dual camera setups, the Mi 6 has two 12-megapixel rear cameras which is able to create a depth of field effect for taking portrait photos with out-of-focus backgrounds.
The display is similar to the previous flagship at 5.15in full-HD display.
However, this time around, the display now sports a four-sided 3D curved glass around the edges, giving a pleasing wrap-around aesthetic.
Also, the company says that the display has been designed to be eye-friendly.
The brightness level can be set to a much lower level and has blue-light filtering to reduce glare in low light condition.
Other notable features a large 3,350mAh battery, stereo speakers, under-glass front fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C connector and splash resistance to prevent damage from accidental exposure to liquid.
Fans of earphones with cables are out of luck though as the company has finally phased out the 3.5mm audio jack usually found at the bottom of the phone.
The Mi 6 is available in four colour options - Black, White, Blue and Silver.
The phone will be available in China from April 28 at 2,499 yuan (S$507) for the 64GB variant and 2,899 yuan for the 128GB model. The special Ceramic edition will be priced at 2,999 yuan.
The company has yet to announce the phone's international release date.
