Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are expecting their third child-a girl due in January-via a surrogate, TMZ recently reported.

The entertainment website said the celebrity couple hired a surrogate, "an African-American woman in her 20s and in great physical shape," because Kim has a medical condition called placenta accreta, which worsened during her second pregnancy; attempting to carry a third child could be life-threatening for her.

TMZ added that Kanye and Kim, who have a daughter, North, 4, and a son, Saint, 1, paid the surrogate US$ 45,000 and prohibited her from drinking, smoking, doing drugs, soaking in a hot tub, eating raw fish and having her hair dyed.
