Charli XCX to perform at Asian Television Awards

Charli XCX’s upcoming third album might just boast some of 2017’s best party bangers.

The British pop singer, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, is planning to release a follow-up to Sucker (2014) that would make for great dance music.

Ahead of her performance at the 21st Asian Television Awards (ATA) tonight, the 24-year-old said in a round table interview at Sofitel So Singapore: “I would say it’s half pop, half dance-oriented. I’ve always wanted to make a party record, something that would be really great to party to.

” Aitchison is a firm believer of “work hard, play hard”.

During the interview, she was forced to prop her right leg on some cushions on a chaise longue as she struggled to get comfortable, thanks to a knee sprain after a recent night out in Paris. A white knee guard was a jarring accessory to her black dress and white sneakers ensemble.

“I probably will have to stand very still during my (ATA) performance. “It’s not painful, just very uncomfortable,” said Aitchison, who joins Mandopop singer-songwriter JJ Lin and Indonesian crooner Rossa in this year’s list of performers at the annual Asian TV industry awards ceremony. The event will be broadcast live on Toggle and RTL CBS Entertainment HD (StarHub TV Ch 509) at 8pm.

In the course of her career, Aitchison has also penned several songs for popular singers including Selena Gomez (Same Old Love).

Does she keep the best ones for herself? “If I feel a visual connection with the track, and if I can imagine the music video while writing it, then I keep it for myself. Otherwise, I give it away if it suits the singer.

“I think (songwriting) helps with the longevity of my career and provides me with a different creative outlet. “It allows me to say things that I wouldn’t say in my own projects,” she said.
