Over the weekend, Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin cheekily introduced us to a new word: Singaporise.

This was done via his Facebook post where Tan posted screenshots of the word in articles by Financial Times and Business Insider. As one netizen puts it, the word means an "incorporation of a Singapore way of doing things."

In celebration of the fact that our efficiency and efficacy have encouraged people to coin a new verb after us, we've decided to look at some of our favourite pop culture trends that have been 'Singaporised'.

MICAPPELLA'S DISNEY MEDLEY

No Disney+? No problem, because local a cappella group Micappella is back again with another hit. The sextet, who previously created a wildly successful Mandarin mashup of the theme songs from Taiwanese films You Are the Apple of My Eye and Our Times, released their take on Disney's catalogue of songs and how it has evolved since 1937.

The video dropped on YouTube Sunday (March 15) and features an impressive repertoire of 23 iconic songs from Disney favourites like Snow White, Cinderella, The Lion King, Mulan, Moana, and even Frozen 2.

'DISCOUNT' MULAN TRAILER

The local release of Mulan may have been delayed indefinitely, but we can always watch a 'discount' Singapore version of the first trailer created by local filmmaker, Jaze Phua.

Phua, who previously caught the eye of the Avengers: Endgame directors for his parody of the film's trailer, put his comedic spin on the Mulan trailer too.

From Mulan's stoic expressions to cheap recreations of sets and costumes, Phua has managed to remain faithful to the trailer while giving audiences a good, hearty laugh. #supportlocal

'CRAZY REAL ASIANS'

With a Hollywood production finally based in our country, people were finally starting to realise that there's a lot more to our little red dot aside from the tourist spots. Or have they?

When South China Morning Post released their video showcasing where the "real Crazy Rich Asians of Singapore hang out", they were criticised by Singaporeans on their choice of locations.

In response, YouTuber YEOLO (otherwise known as Yeo Tze Hern) made his own version on where the "crazy real Asians hang out" and took shots at the host (for her ostentatious fashion style) and the touristy locations featured in SCMP's video. It's almost a crime that the views aren't as high as it should be.

SINGAPORE SOCIAL

Ahh... the infamous reality TV show that explores the "lives of young Singaporeans as they defy expectations and traverse the tricky terrain of career, romance and family".

We're not sure what else can be said about this that hasn't been discussed extensively, except that this was a 'Singaporised' Keeping Up with the Kardashians that locals most likely didn't ask for.

Critics slammed the show for being vapid and unrealistic, leading the cast to speak up against the vitriol they received. But the show has its supporters, even while we felt that the criticisms were not unwarranted
