Stars descend on the shining, shimmering, splendid red carpet of Disney's Aladdin in Singapore

The stars were shining bright on the purple carpet that it could have felt like a magic carpet ride.

The amount of star power packed a punch as celebrities turned out in full force for the opening night of Disney's Aladdin on Thursday (July 25).

Musicians like Sezairi, and former members of The Sam Willows - Jon Chua, Benjamin Kheng and Sandra Riley Tang - were present.

Local actor Elvin Ng walked the carpet where he told AsiaOne that his favourite character is the Genie because when you see him, "all your dreams come true".

Actress Julie Tan preferred Jafar despite the fact that he's the villain.

"Even though he's the villain, he will do what it takes to achieve what he wants and it takes a lot of courage to do that," she explained.

As for Constance Lau (of Crazy Rich Asians and Lion Mums fame), she was most excited to hear A Whole New World and most graciously sang a line for us.

Oh, and guess what?

Even actress Joanne Peh made an unexpected appearance as this reporter spotted her during the intermission.

"It's been so good! Oh my goodness! It's half-time now and I'm so excited to watch the rest of it," she gushed.

Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, Aladdin made its world premiere to critical acclaim on Broadway in 2014. It quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters in recent years and has welcomed close to 10 million people worldwide.

This production of Disney's Aladdin opened in Sydney in 2016 and has travelled around Australia and New Zealand before making its way to Singapore as its final stop - and the only one in Asia too.
