Best thing I ate this week: Mixed beef pho bo

What: Mixed Beef Pho Bo ($9.50)

Where: Moc Quan, 81 Clemenceau Avenue, UE Square, #01-23

I'd admit: I was deciding where to have dinner one weekend and gave this place a shot solely after being inspired by a friend's Instagram photo of the restaurant's pho bo.

Yes, shallow me.

Thirty minutes later, I showed up at Moc Quan, ordered myself a bowl of pho bo and tucked into gastronomical delight reminiscent of the street food in Ho Chi Minh.

With a squeeze of some lime juice, the broth came to life. It was fresh-tasting and well balanced - not overly salty or reeking of flavour enhancing additives - and littered with herbs and vegetables.

The meat and beef balls, cooked tenderly till a medium rare, added just the right texture and flavour to complement the white noodles.

Portions are generous too so don't expect to walk away with much room in your belly. But if you do have some space left, take my word for it and try the banh mi.
