'Best thing I ate' is a series where we share the best things we have eaten around Singapore. Read more here.

What: Tea Smoked Duck Breast Salad with Homemade Oriental Sesame Dressing ($5.80)

Where: 吃Western, Management Food Court, Blk 206 Toa Payoh North

A good salad is often hard to find in most western food stalls in coffee shops, except for the usual coleslaw that accompanies some main dishes.

But I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered Tea Smoked Duck Breast Salad with Homemade Oriental Sesame Dressing from 吃Western (Eat Western) in Toa Payoh North.

When I picked up my order from the self-service stall, the sight of the dish whetted my appetite immediately.

This salad is very Instagram-worthy, with smoked duck slices artfully arranged into a flower on top of a bed of fresh lettuce and cherry tomatoes.

And it has more than good looks too.

The dish boasted a good mixture of flavours, with savoury meat, bursts of tangy sweetness from each bite of mandarin orange, and fragrant sesame dressing.

A sprinkling of corn flakes also added a nice crunch to the dish.

The salad will make for a good appetiser to be enjoyed together with main dishes like Fish & Chips or other side dishes like Cheesy Salted Egg Yolk Cereal Crumb Fries.

With such a tasty salad, I'd be sure to eat more greens in the future.
