KOTA TINGGI - A 27-year-old golf caddy was charged at a magistrate's court here with the murder of a woman who was found dead with her hands and legs bound with cable.

Mohd Hayattulnurul Mohd Ghazali Ejau was accused of murdering Rovina Md Shariff, 37, a mother of five, between 9.15pm on Dec 10 and 11am on Dec 12 last year.

Mohd Hayattulnurul, from Felda Lok Heng Timur, was said to have committed the murder near a booth located in a rubber estate along Jalan Haji Salleh in Kampung Lukut here.

The accused, who was in an orange lock-up attire, nodded after the charge was read to him yesterday. No plea was recorded.

Mohd Hayattulnurul was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faces the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

It was reported that the body of Rovina was found face down with her hands and legs tied up with cable.

Mohd Hayattulnurul pleaded guilty to another charge of consuming methamphetamine and amphetamine at the Kota Tinggi District police narcotics office at around 2.20am on Sept 8, 2015.

He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Kota Tinggi court registrar Hairul Azhar Mohamad set Feb 13 for mention for both cases, pending post-mortem results.

Deputy public prosecutor Suhaila Shafi'udin prosecuted the case.
