SINGAPORE - More than 130 units of blood were collected from about 200 donors who showed up for Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH's) Red Apple Day, a biannual blood donation drive held in partnership with the Singapore Red Cross Society (SRCS).

Into its 11th year, the event was held at the SPH News Centre auditorium. Both SPH staff and members of the public came to donate blood.

Mr Alan Chan, Chief Executive Officer of SPH and a blood donor himself, said: “The SPH Red Apple Day is a timely reminder for us to spare a thought for those in need during this festive season."

"By spending just about 45 minutes of our time to donate blood, we are giving others a vital lifeline," he added, giving thanks to both staff and the public for showing their support.

The next SPH Red Apple Day event will be held on July 17.

The SPH Red Apple Day 2012 was supported by Benelux, Cerebos, Gardenia, Marigold, Milo, AsiaOne, SPH MediaBoxOffice and SPH Unionworks’ 91.3FM and Radio 100.3.

SRCS also issued an announcement that the Bloodbank@HSA, located at 11 Outram Road, will be opened on the following days:

- Sunday 22 January (9am to 2pm - half day)

- Tuesday 24 January (9am to 2pm - half day)

It will be closed on Monday, January 23, and will resume regular operating hours from Wednesday, January 25 onwards.
