250,000 masks on sale, under $2 each at FairPrice

SINGAPORE - About 250,000 N95 face masks priced below $2 each were made available at all 115 NTUC FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets islandwide from Saturday.

To ensure more households are able to obtain them, FairPrice said it is limiting the purchase of the N95 face masks manufactured by Kimberly-Clark (right) to 10 pieces per person.

In a statement on Thursday, the company said: "In fulfilling our social mission to moderate the cost of living, the face masks are affordably priced to curb profiteering and to set benchmark prices."

Meanwhile, a snap poll of some 940 Singaporeans by the Government feedback agency Reach shows that eight out of 10 people here are confident that Singapore will get through the current haze situation brought on by fires in Indonesia, despite expressing their concerns.

It also shows that there is very high public awareness on safety precautions to be taken, and available sources of information related to the haze situation.

The survey was conducted through telephone interviews with randomly-selected Singapore residents, aged 15 and above.

Almost 80 per cent said they were concerned about the haze situation and 84 per cent were confident that Singapore would get through it.

Some 67 per cent of those surveyed said that they were aware of the safety precautions that they should take, depending on the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index readings.
