PETALING JAYA: Consumers are scrambling to get their hands on air purifiers and air conditioners, which are fast selling out due to hazy conditions.
Demand for the items surged last weekend as people bought the items to help them weather the haze by staying cool and healthy.
A representative of Senheng Electric Sdn Bhd said sales of the products had increased by about 30 per cent since the haze began.
"All the top brands are sold out, whether online or at our stores. Normally, the basic one sells out faster but this time, even the high-end models are sold out," she said.
The price of air purifiers stocked by the company ranges between RM400 and RM2,000 per unit. A check on the Senheng website showed that all 12 products were out of stock.
On when fresh stock was expected to arrive, she said there was no confirmation on the date.
Meanwhile, some electrical companies have placed customers on a waiting list for additional stock from the manufacturers.
A marketing officer for HLK (Chain-Store) Sdn Bhd said visitors to some of its outlets might not be able to find the items.
"We supply fewer than 10 units of air purifiers and air conditioners to our outlets," she said.
More customers, she said, were also opting for bigger models, which were more effective for spacious locations like living rooms.
