Bishan clinic GP suspended for 4 months

A general practitioner at a Bishan clinic has been suspended for four months and fined $5,000 after pleading guilty to 10 charges of professional misconduct.

A statement from the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) yesterday said that Dr Kwan Wai Chee, 43, had practised at the Bishan Grace Clinic located at Block 150, Bishan Street 11.

The charges she faced included inappropriately prescribing hypnotics and cough mixtures which contained codeine to patients.

She had also failed to warn her patients of the potential for addiction to such medication. A Disciplinary Committee (DC) Inquiry was held on March 12 and Dr Kwan's suspension took effect a month later on April 12.

The DC also ordered that she be censured and for her to give a written undertaking to the SMC that she will not engage in similar conduct.
